He's known as the rich barber who drives a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost to work. Ramesh was born in Bengaluru in 1971 to a barber who died when he was 7 years old, leaving only a barbershop left. Ramesh's mother supported her family by working as a cook and renting out the barbershop for 5 rupees a day.
Due to the family's precarious situation, they would only be able to eat one meal every day. The gravity of the situation caused Ramesh, a 17-year-old, to rethink whether he should support his mother or continue his studies.
He finally chose to recover the family salon company, and he was able to support his family while still saving a little money.
His life was turned upside down when he decided to buy a car, a Maruti Omni, with his meager resources and a bank loan. He decided to rent out his salon because it was not enough to maintain his mounting debt.
That was the seed that eventually grew into Ramesh Tours & Travels, his new company. He bought other little automobiles in the following years, but the competition was fierce, so he decided to invest in luxury cars, and he was the first to do so.
Ramesh's success was a one-way street from then on. Ramesh's net worth is estimated to be a whopping 2 billion dollars, and his clients include celebrities and politicians.
He still works at his salon now, in addition to successfully running his car rental business, to which he devotes 12 hours each day. He continues to cut and style hair to remind himself of his lowly beginnings.
